Some of the exciting new features in Enfold Desktop

Version 3.0

  • New feature, file name normalization. Optionally you can enable normalization of filenames, when a file containing unicode is uploaded it is renamed on the server
  • Enfold Desktop now requires a license on the server to be available to work. Please contact sales@enfoldsystems.com for information on licensing. Because of this, Enfold Desktop 3.x clients will no longer be compatible with servers running Enfold Desktop 2.9.
  • Enfold Desktop can now be used as an External Editor client. Links in the ZMI and other places will now work through Enfold Desktop.
  • You can now as an administrator optionally specify sessions at predefined points instead of throughout the site.
  • Enfold Desktop should work against Apache 'mod_dav' and IIS, but due to the new licensing you will need to acquire a special license for that. Please contact Enfold Systems if you are interested in this.
  • Miscellaneous performance enhancements and bug fixes

Version 2.3

  • Single sign on support, Enfold desktop now supports NTLM so that users will able to browse Plone without having to enter their password again
  • New support for plugins giving features such as:

    • Auto checkin of changes once you save

    • Enforcement of title and description metadata
    • This plugin will be downloadable from Enfold Systems website shortly
  • Improved link and event support handling. All events are now imported and exported automatically as .ics files. Extensions are automatically added to files in Plone to be consistent with Windows.
  • Miscellaneous performance enhancements and bug fixes.

Version 2.1

  • Product rename, new icons
  • Plone 2.1 compatibility
  • PlonePAS compatibility
  • A limit of 100 users for the sharing tab
  • A permission to turn off the sharing tab

Version 2.0

  • Speed performance improvement in the client, thanks to an improved caching mechanism.
  • Multiple bugs fixed.
  • New licensing policy, Plone Desktop is now free for non-commercial organsiations.

Version 1.1

  • Check in and check out ability. This copies the file onto the local file system and locks the file on the server.

    Discarding a checked out file
  • Offline editing mode, you can check out the content from the server, then edit it offline. When done, you can check all the content back in.
  • Improved editing capabilities. Previously editing a document caused problems with applications that edited using multiple windows. The editing is now done natively - it seemlessly uses Windows editing capabilities.
  • You can now easily add new documents into Plone. For example, right click, go to add new and select Microsoft Word document, creates a Microsoft Word document based on your local template. Just like in explorer.
  • All the usual Windows menu items now appear for content, such as "Open", "Print", "Open With" and so on.
  • New icons, icon overlays and context menu icons for a nicer user interface.
  • Windows help documentation shipped with the client.
  • A few bug fixes.

You can test Plone Desktop 1.1 on our demo site.
