Faculty Web presence grows with Enfold Server, Proxy

Using in-house resources and Enfold Systems’ commercial distribution of Plone, the Houston Community College System has developed a user-friendly content management system that has increased faculty-member Web presence tremendously, according to a case study published this week on Plone.net.

The case study explains how Enfold Server and Enfold Proxy give the college system the benefits of both open-source and commercial software. Web developers get the open-source flexibility of Plone, while Windows-trained administrators get a system they’re comfortable maintaining.

“We got to the point where we reached critical mass with the Zope server,” says instructional Web designer Jordan Carswell. When he asked the college’s Windows-trained technical support staff to set up a proxy server using Apache, “They looked at me like: 'Why are you giving us more work to do? We're not trained in any of these things.'”
