Enfold helps solve Plone speed issue

Document Actions
Building on code contributed by Enfold Systems, Plone developers are solving the system slowness problems content managers can face working with very large content databases.

At Snow Sprint 2008 in the Austrian Alps, developers worked on tools for quickly integrating a Plone site with an alternative search engine. Search indexing can slow content management noticeably when the number of items reaches 100,000 or more.

"So the first task to do was to decide what to use," blogged Tarek Ziadé in his first sprint report. "I called Alan from Enfold Systems because the guys over there have been working on the topic for years." Based on existing code Enfold will release for community use, the sprint team chose to proceed with the open- source Solr search engine.

"The task was quite 'simple' since the Enfold guys did all the hard work," Ziadé wrote.
